Hi. This is obviously not a 1776 8 reales - weight 18 gr , diameter 37mm and has medal alignment. Is it a bad fake or a tourist piece ? thanks for all help.  Identified - moved to Exonumia forum - Sap

Quote: Is it a bad fake or a tourist piece ? I believe the answer to that question is, "yes".  The "8R" means it's supposed to be an 8 reales. Those weigh about the same as an American silver dollar, over 26 grams. 18 grams is way too light.

I bought it from the same seller and returned it as not as described. (and I picked up all the postage costs)

I bought the same one about 3 years ago and after I got it he had another one for sale about 2 days later. it's a fake

Another sucker (me included) has just paid £24 - ebay totally ignored my report

Just noticed this in doing some Google searching... This piece does pop up periodically (often offered as genuine)... most often out of the UK, where it was presumably marketed as a replica at some point.
Can this be moved to the World Coins forum?
