now, its been a long time since I've found any silver coins at work through my registers like I used to and the last time was a guy who took out a pocket full of change and had a silver dime and I gave him a quarter for it.

im tempted to buy a silver eagle but the premium is so high, I've been watching the price in silver go up from 23 dollars an ounce up to 34 an ounce and now its around 32.

am I better off getting a 1 ounce .999 fine silver bullion rather than a silver eagle if its cheaper?

Silver Eagles have the advantage of being very recognizable and easy to resell, as opposed to bullion products which might not be trusted by a potential buyer. You should be able to get them for $2.50 above spot at any given time, depending on where you shop.

can the same be said for silver american quarters and halves? I have a bunch of those or am I better selling those for silver eagles that are potentially more recognizable?

The price on that silver eagle seems a little steep to me. If there is a coin shop or show near by, I would go there where I think you probably would be able to get them at the price barryg quoted.

IF the ASE is your first and to be the type coin in your collection, don't sweat the premium too much.

You might love your first Silver Eagle. I carried mine in my pocket for months.

Maybe you could settle for a tattoo of a Silver Eagle.

......Or sweep the vacant lots with a metal detector.

Like the chubby little guy in the NYS Lottery TV commercials says, "Hey - You never know!"

Besides - a decent professional quality tattoo of a Silver Eagle would cost considerably more than a nice new Silver Eagle itself would cost.

nah, shop minimum at my tattoo place is 50 dollars, id rather buy a real silver eagle, thanks for the info guys, I've been eying silver eagles for a while now and really want one to go in my silver collection, one thing I dont understand is why the denomination is one dollar when its an ounce of silver thats worth way more than a dollar

also, I have the Amazon.com credit card and have 16 dollars in points saved up on that and cant find any good priced silver eagles, I used some of my credit to buy a walking liberty, it was well worth it

Silver eagles are way overpriced on Amazon for whatever reason without a significant increase in pm value

Thats the same problem I run into. 45 seems to be the low end there. Even if you get enough points you might be better off getting less overpriced stuff and trying to trade a few walking liberties or something for an eagle
