ive heard people buying the bags of coins that all the coins are dropped into at bank coinstars or whatever they use.
generally, how much can these bags go for?
what are the chances of finding anything worth digging through a big bag of coins?
the one at my bank doesn't have a reject bin so its possible to find silvers if anything, but is it really worth it or is it easier to just buy rolls?
i havnt had luck with rolls at all, but I might try it again soon

I've never heard of such a thing. I'd imagine that would be one VERY long line to purchase one, made up of 75% CCF members.

Although I had no way to verify his story so I can only treat it as heresay, an old acquantance of mine claims he does buy coinstar bags from his credit union.
The circumstances seem credible enough to me, but I always treat this sort of thing with some degree of skeptisim. If I remember correctly his credit union has a free use machine in its lobby for members and is serviced by the bank itself. He has a friendly relationship with one of the managers who allows him to purchase full bags at face from time to time if he times it right before they are picked up by their armored car service. As I recall they were large and fairly expensive bags too, like $500 face.
I'll try to get more detail from him and get back to you guys here. I dont keep up with him that much though lately because we live in different cities now but I still have his phone and email.
The long and short of it with Coinstar is, I think the only way an outsider could buy raw bags is to know someone in the chain of custody that could authorize a purchase like the above.

I've bought bags on occaision throughout the years, never from Coinstar, as they are always under contract with Brinks (here). Normally, you pay whatever the bag balance is. I have scored decent finds in the past with halves, but in the last year or two the bags have been purely clad dumps. Sometimes it's difficult to buy bags off a counter, as you must first establish a working relationship with your bank.

I buy bags from a coin counter (non coin star) in a grocery store where I have a good relationship with the manager. I usually buy the halves only because the other denominations seem to be about on par with cwr's from the bank. I never get anything close to a full bag because the machine doesn't get used a ton but my averages are way better than rolls.

Wouldn't the bag be void of most silver and foreigns, due to the sorting? I have found that those coins get rejected.

the one at my bank is a bank used and serviced one, not an official coinstar, and it doesn't have a reject bin, I do occasionally check the reject bin at the coinstar at my job even if it does look a little desperate to be looking for change

No luck around here on bags at all. All the grocery stores are coinstar machines with one bin all coins go into, the bin is locked and only brinks has the key, managers have a key if the machines jams, but no access to the coins.
The banks with machines are the nice accurate cummins machines, again all coins go to one bin, so no individual bags.

the one at my bank itsnt accurate, I usually hand count my change before I dump it in the machine and its always 10-30 cents short of how much I put in, and they have no problems with giving me the money thats missing when I tell them its off from what I counted
