I couldn't sleep the other night and wound up surfing ebay, ran across an auction that was ending in the wee hours of the morning while I was up and bid $4.55 on a lot of 100 "uncirculated" world coins. With shipping it will come out to about 9 cents per coin my cost. Now I am wondering what to expect. Anyone have any experience with these type offers? I also bought a lot of 100 world notes for about the same price. Deal or no Deal?

will post follow up to this thread when it all arrrives and tell you what I got.

I've done the same thing a couple of times in the last few weeks also. I know nothing about foreign coins, but the coins I received look nice and give me incentive to learn about the coins from the countries they came from.

I think that these are a great and inexpensive way to expand your knowledge of world coins. Typically you get a lot of base-metal, pre-euro stuff mixed in with other low-value, circulated world coins. I'd bet you get at least one coin from Great Britain, Mexico and Canada too.

I think the offer stated that there were NO coins from Canada or Mexico; but that might have been on the banknote offer.

since my wife collects world coins I thought it might be something she would enjoy looking through.

Maybe I will get lucky and one of those that Sinbad posted (most sought after SA coin). If I get two in the lot I have to give him one!

(Not holding my breath- lol)

I bought one of those when I was filling gaps in my foreign collection. Most of the coins are indeed UNC or BU quality and range in price from $0.25 to $1.00 on average. Just make sure you see the actual picture of what you are getting. I think the best sellers of those auctions are the ones that list all the countries of the coins they are selling. Happy eBaying at the wee hours

good adivce graceoutcast,
I think the ones I bought had a "stock" or "file" photo. They came in today, very fast shipping. Haven't looked at them yet as they were for the wife but they were all loose in one ziplock bag, could see some on the surface and it looked like there were lots with animals on them which is what she wants. After she goes through them I will post a photo or list of what I got in this "grab bag"
Rest in Peace

Bob:

Good deal. I have been into several coin shops over the past two to three years, and all of them had a mixture of foreign coins for sale. The coins, usually uncirculated, cost 20 cents to 25 cents each.

By the way, I have a friend who sometimes supplies me with foreign coins from his travels. I have given them away to such fellow collectors as ndgoflo and djluster. Now, I usually give a few to the grandkids since they are getting into coin collecting. Anyway, next time I get a bunch I would be happy to send some of them to you.
