Hello friends,

I bought this coin last year in a lot of unrelated coins and vaguely remember the seller saying that this was Vietnamese and from the 11-12th century but honestly I have no idea.

Can anyone ID this coin and does it have any value.

30.5grams, 50mm

Thank you in advance,

-Kurt

It's not one I've seen before - but I'm quite sure it's a 19th century charm from China

Kurt - the design on your coin/charm is very similar to a Vietnamese coin of Emperor Quang Trung who lived from 1753 to 1792. Unfortunately there were a great many counterfeits made for the tourist trade and also for those foreigners who were in Vietnam during the Vietnam War era. See this link for an interesting article on the subject with examples:-

In Vietnam, so I'm told, large cash-style amulets like this are traditionally nailed to houses and other buildings for good luck.
