Anyone else have trouble passing a great deal on a book about coins? I went out looking in thrift stores and consignment shops for coins. didn't find any today, but, did come across this nice U.S Silver Dollar Encyclopedia (1992)! Originally at a staggering price of $100.00, I purchased it for $3.42

Rest in Peace

It sounds like you have already gotten $3.42 worth of enjoyment from it.
But I did one better last May. At the end of a local coin show I noticed a book about US. Small Currency. It was old, but I looked through it.
Then the owner said, "If you want it, take it."
I took it!

That's a great book, while the values maybe out of date today, the stories and info contained is still very relevant. I took mine to a show and had John sign it many years ago. (I try to do that with my favorite authors whenever possible). Also keep an eye out for the Morgan and Peace dollar textbook by Wayne Miller another outdated but very useful book to have.

westcoin, You are correct. It's the stories and info that I'm looking for. I've been finding a lot of "Red Books" for sale around my area too. I'll keep an eye out for the "Morgan and Peace dollar textbook".

Just one of the reasons I check out Salvation Army stores, Goodwill stores, used book stores, etc. You never know what you'll find.
