Hi, I got this coin recently, a 1880Cn 25 Cents with high catalog value, but I am not quite familiar with Mexico coins... It weighs 6.6 gram, looks right, but is slightly larger in diameter than a 1885Zs 25 Cent which I have, and is lack in details. Can anyone help me about if it is genuine or not? Thanks a lot!

Your weight is a little low , it should be 6.77 grams, how accurate is your scale? That coupled with the size difference makes me suspect it as a fake. Have you tried the magnet test? Condition wise, the amount of detail/wear looks pretty typical for this type of coin.

Thanks. The scale is pretty accurate from scientific lab, 6.5946g, considering the wear it could be. It also does not stick to magnet. What I am concerning about is its size: slightly larger than my 1885Zs 25 Cent, sounds different too, and the details are vague, e.g. the chain of balance looks like straight line.

In my humble opinion the coin is a fake. the details are too mushy like a bad transfer die and the font in the date looks off to me. Coin should be exact size and weight. I am no authority on the Republic minors but the coin sets of alarms when I look at it. It appears to be the same apparently fake coin offered on ebay earlier this month that sold. Was that the source of your coin or is there a small output of fakes hitting the market all at once through different channels? Measure the thickness and the diamaeter and compare to your other 25 Centavo (assuming it is not fake as well) and if the coin is truely larger and lighter, you have a bad coin.

This coin does come from ebay. I purchased a couple coins, and two of them, this one and a Chinese coin, are problematic. I contacted seller but they denied any possibility of fake, though I am quite certain that the Chinese coin is fake.. Cant believe they are a highly reputable seller with almost 8k feedback.
