Some big news regarding my Dansco 7070 Type Set. First, I would like to pay respect to Bryan, and KenKat for sharing photos of their wonderful sets to everyone. That is what originally inspired me to pick up my set last month and get started on this journey. Also thank you to people who have read my posts and especially to those who have responded with their vast knowledge of numismatics. I feel that I have learned a lot about all of these coins, and I believe that every coin has a story to tell. IN addition, in terms of grading coins I have improved so much by reading hundreds perhaps thousands of posts in the last 5-6 weeks. I just ordered the LAST coin to fill in the last hole of my set. It should be arriving (hopefully) sometime this week. It is a 1857 Seated Liberty quarter with No Motto. This coin is by no means the rarest or most expensive coin in the set. In general for the entire set I have emphasized problem free coins in VF+ (usually AU+.) This particular coin was purchased from an ebay seller whom I have previously purchased a lot of high quality coins from. The coin may actually be considered a "problem, ungradable" coin but I'm not even 100% sure of that. Here are some pictures of the coin. There is obviously a large contact mark on the reverse next to the eagle's beak. I got the coin for under $40. I am also very excited about the first CC coin I have ever had the pleasure to handle. It is also on the way from this same dealer, and is going to replace a low grading coin. I hope to post some pictures of the completed set, although I am not sure what the best way to do that would be.

Very Nice! It just goes to show that this album doesn't have to take years to complete if you actively fill holes when you can. There are allot of coins in the album but most people would be surprised how many holes they can fill with what is already in their collection if they are not just starting out. The reason I say this isn't to knock on the ones that are looking for those special coins to put in their album, but for those that think the album is to much to take on as they think it is a lifelong commitment because of how many coins are in the album. There is also no wrong way to do it, I have seen a whole album with nothing but coins with holes in them, and one with nothing but the most worn out coins they could find. So it is all about what you are trying to accomplish but there is no wrong way to fill the holes. Now my question to coins4fun is, are you going to get the Gold page now or are you satisfied with the way it is now, are there some coins you hope to upgrade in the future or were you like me where you bought the coins in a certain grade and once they were there there was going to be no upgrading in the future?

I completed mine a couple of years ago but a lot of the coins are low grade, so last year I started working on the same set but certified only coins. Completing this set in any form is pretty tough!

Just remember - your 7070 will ALWAYS be a "work in progress"... It's the nature of the beast and a wonderful quest. PG

Very nice! Quote: It just goes to show that this album doesn't have to take years to complete if you actively fill holes when you can. True. Do not do it like me. I started mine in 1993 (almost twenty years ago) and still have sixteen holes to fill.

Did you do your entire 7070 in a month? If so, wow.

I know quite a few people that have finished their 7070 album and never touched it again. One was the 7070 album filled with holed coins, there was no need to ever change the coins out as it is what he set out for it to be and when it was done, it was done. So everyone saying its a never ending quest isn't actually correct. Sure there are some that people are always working on but the ones that have a set condition they are placing in their album and stick to that condition with every coin, when they have the album complete there is no need to start changing coins out for something else as they have the album they were trying to create when they started. That was one thing I thought about when I started mine, I said once I find a coin to put in there then it will not be changed unless something I wasn't aware of like hidden problems comes to light after I have filled the hole. Then and only then would the coin be swapped out for another one. So when the last coin was added it was DONE.

Quote: So everyone saying its a never ending quest isn't actually correct. Well, I was really just trying to be humorous. It's definitely a never-ending quest for me (and many others), but as with most things, your mileage may vary... [Edit for spelling]

I have 5 slots to go (seated dollars, Trade dollar and reeded bust half) and 6 slots scheduled for upgrade. I have had the album for 30 years or so. I will finish eventually. It's the journey.

I have to congratulate anyone that has completed the 7070, especially in such a short time period. I've been working on mine for the last few years & still have 14 holes to fill. I've got 3-4 coins I pulled from collections I bought that didn't quite meet the standards I set that I want to upgrade eventually. I'm also enjoying the hunt & am in no hurry.

battyg you weren't the only one saying it so my post wasn't aimed towards any certain person. I have heard it said many times on coin forums about the type albums and I was just wanting to let everyone that may read this thread that is thinking about starting one but doesn't want a life long project that it doesn't have to be that way as there are many that have finished the album and once it was done, it was done. I have heard quite a few say they have thought about starting one but they are reluctant because of the time they think it takes (a lifetime is a long time for some) and I was just wanting them to know that's not always the case if they plan their album before they start and stick to their plan Quote: This is my goal. I am not an upgrader, so this is doable. When I started mine I knew there would be none of the coins ever upgraded and that was one of the requirements I set for myself when I was deciding on starting the album. These are the goals I had set for the album, 1: Every coin had to be in at least AU-50 condition (unless it was from my Grandfathers collection but even then had to be very close to this grade) 2: Every coin had to be problem, free 3: If I bought it for the album and it was slabbed, it was to be cracked out and placed into the album no matter of value 4: No coin was to ever be upgraded or replaced unless it was for the reason listed in goal #5 5:The only way a coin was to be upgraded or replaced is if it was deemed to have problems that I hadn't detected when the coin was placed in the album I had actually side stepped on #4 with the commem halves, but I didn't purchase any of the ones I had in the album for the album. They were from my collection I already had but near the end I had started replacing the modern commems with classics I had started purchasing for the album

I agree. There might be 2 or 3 Id consider upgrading but other than that once I'm done I'm done, otherwise no other sets would get completed as the 7070 would just be constantly sucking up funds

The only one I may want to upgrade is the Memorial cent. The hole is clearly labeled Bronze, but it currently has a 1993 Zincoln in that spot. I got the album in 1993. This was the second new cent I found (the first one being in my Lincoln Dansco) and the very first coin I put into the 7070 album. One can understand my dilemma, right?
