>>>>dcarr: Nice looking coin, but what is "two rollers"? Is that a new kind of skate; or new name for currency?lol LeAnn
Long story. The short version is, I wanted to mint this as a prototype coin and I wasn't sure it would be legal if it said "Two Dollars". I had previously made a "One Roller" coin for the same reasons. So "Two Rollers" was used.

If they made them I'd add one to my collection. However they won't have a chance if they don't get rid of the paper notes. They would make them and store them.

I think a $5 coin makes more sense than a $2 coin, size is everything though. The $1 presidentials are probably too big, they should be the size of a dime, a $5 coin should be around the size of a nickel. There's a real opportunity here for the government to save some serious money phasing out paper currency and replacing the notes with coinage.
Just my $.02

I agree. A $5 coin around the size of a Nickel or Susan B would make people more apt to actually want them to spend them. $1 doesn't go far when you need to tip a valet or bribe a congressman with "pocket change"

I'm suprised that an Aussie has not commented on this so far. We, like the Canadians, had no trouble. And no after effects. 1984: $1.00 coin issued in al/bronze. (gold coloured), ceased printing dollar notes.(diam. 25mm) 1988: $2.00 coin issued in al/bronze. (gold coloured) ceased printing two dollar notes.(dian. 20.5 mm) No hassles, a few gov't announcements and the mint got on with job. Saved a few million trees. regards,

I love the look of the coin designed by dcarr. It would and could really be a hit IF there were no paper bills corresponding in denomination. But I think they should both be about the size of the quarter(seems like that is the current thoughts) LOL

dcarr--that's a real nice disign and I think they would make a mint of money on that one,I think anything to do with space would be very collectable

Regarding the use of $2 bills - The only use I ever saw of them was for gifts. However, I've started as a collection counter at church. We have a small congregation of about 100 folks. Every week I see $2 bills in the plate. Its unusual if I see less than 5 on any given week. They don't come from the same people, because they are in different envelopes.

Just in support of Muckeye's post. Aussie's had no problems with the $1 & $2 notes being discontinued and the two replacement coins are quite OK, the $1 is used for most of our commemorative purposes, both circulating & NCLT.
A lot of collectors specialise just in $1. The paper $1 notes used to get worn out very quickly. We don't have any paper notes now, they're all polymer.

If the dollar and two dollar bills were pulled from circulation, then dollar and two dollar coins would quickly make their way into our everyday coinage, IMHO. Until then, however, there's not really any reason for people to adopt the larger denomination coins.
Also...if our coinage were change from penney-nickel-dime-quarter-half-dollar to 2 cent-dime-20 cent-half-dollar and two dollar we'd be able to make correct change readily. It would also allow a re-sizing and re-coloring of coins to make it easy for everyone to tell the difference.
But...it won't happen.

I pay cash for everything that I can. For that reason only I wouldn't want notes eliminated. It would be a real burden.

As was stated before, us Canadians have no problems with the $2.00 coin, which I beleive, if implemented carefully, could work on the USA. Now for the reality: Canada had 30 million people, most of which had already adopted the $1 coin, to convince. The USA has 350 million people, very few of whom have adopted the $1, to convince. I see a problem but it is possible to rout.
