What do you think? It's not like the $2 note is widely used. I rarely ever see them. But really what purpose does the $2 note have? Edited by TheForce 03/30/2007 11:12 pm

the only thing I have ever known them to be good for was when my grandpa use to go to the race track and place bets. other than that I dont know what purpose they really have. other than kids always like to get them as gifts

I like the idea, but I don't think it would fly. It would be a collectors coin only adding yet another must have coin to complete a u.s. collection. My budget seems to get smaller and smaller for my key dates because I'm trying to keep up with current coins as it is.

I think the government could save money by not producing the $2 note.
I think money could be made from collectors by producing $2 coins.

$2 bills are for collectors and for gifts.
A $2 coin? Sure! I think it would be great, and if we did away with the $1 and $2 bill, there would be no choice. I have talked with Canadians, and they have no problem with a $2 coin whatsoever.

Canada has the Loonie and Toonie and since Ben Franklin wanted the turkey to be the US bird, we could have the eagle and the Twokey.

It would work if it was phased in like Canada did. Eliminate the $1 bill and a few years after people get used to useing the dollar coins replace the $2 bill with a $2 coin.

This country is to polarized to decide on anything like this. There would be special "think tanks"; consultants appointed (3 for each side) and then an "Independent Commission" to not decide on anything but to lay blame for party in power. The U.S. Mint should just stop producing the expensive greenback and make coins in other words do the job they were assigned to do, make as much money available as the federal reserve says,.

When I was in Italy a few years ago, I saw the 2 Euro circulated along side the 1 Euro. I believe it could work if the US made a 2 dollar coin. Although it would take one heck of a PR campaign.

I don't think either will work until the paper counterpart is gone. But on the other hand, this would be a hit with collectors.

I do love the look of the 2$ note though. and I do agree another coin would just be another collection that I would have to get. I love coins for collecting, but with as much money as I deal with everyday the paper money is much easier to handle in large amounts.
