I have a 1896-O Morgan dollar in EF I was thinking about selling on ebay. My RedBook says that it's worth about $43, but most are going for only $30-$35 on the Bay. I would sell it to my usual coin dealer, but he's only interested in silver value. Where would you recommend I sell my coin for the best price?

You need to take into consideration the fees that ebay and paypal take in as well. You may be better off selling to your dealer, then again people do some pretty crazy bidding on ebay...on occasion.

Yeah, sometimes on ebay, as the seller if you list it properly, you can definitely get lucky.

I have done well selling coins like this one on CL. Set a price and stick with it. Someone will buy it.

Thank you all for your input. I'll try CL first, and if it doesn't sell, I'll try ebay. Happy Hunting!

If I were you i'd leave it on craigslist. You'll get more there than your dealer, and more than ebay for this one probably. If this coin sold for $35 on ebay, then after paypal and ebay fees you would only get $30.53. If it took you $3 to ship then your total profit would be $27.53 on this coin. Don't do ebay for coins that don't have numismatic premium. That is my rule of thumb. Craigslist will be your best bet.

Have you thought of listing it here and giving us a crack at it? At any rate, I hope you get your price.

He doesn't have the required 250 posts yet to sell here. If you do place on ebay, make sure to list your terms exactly so there are no surprises to the buyer.

I would agree with CL, seems like the best place to sell US silver coins that aren't key dates.
