I love the concept but at $99 per year it's a little pricey for this poor coin collector.

Cool its digital format and updated every 3 months

But...

Now I need educated.

I have a lot of Redbooks from previous years, but I never bought one myself - they were always gifts from people who had no clue what a coin collector would want.

I have always thought of them as a lousy price evaluation (placing too much value on things), and before the internet only thought they were good for the coin specs/history and mintage records. So really, once I had one, it would be a long time before I would want another since the history/specs change little.

So what am I missing in the appeal of this publication? Obviously so many other people find something in it I personally do not see. Sometimes I can be dense. So what am I missing?

Please do NOT take this wrong - this is not a negative toward the publication. Like the old saying goes, millions of people cannot be wrong...

...well until election times anyway

the RedBook comes out every year because there are new coins every year and those new coins will be included in the new RedBook. If you do not care anything about any Modern coins then a new RedBook really isn't going to be much good for you unless you want to see how much the prices have changed in the RedBook throughout the years on the classics. I am guessing the online version would be closer to the correct prices since it is being updates every 3 months instead of every year and also because the prices aren't written down months before the book is even printed. It being updated more often and being in an online form,at should give it a chance of being closer to the correct prices a coin is being sold for

Of little use for me. If I want to look something up, I just open that book and don't have to turn on my computer. A well known problem with the Red Book has always been the prices are excessive. I highly doubt that on line, that will change. I usually suggest if people want a decent pricing, purchase a 3 or 4 year old version of the Red Book. For example for prices I am now using the 2010 edition and it is usually fairly accurate.
Another problem for me is I collect the Red Book and have all from the fist to present in hard cover versions. I also have a few of the Ringed versions laying around for usage since I never open the hard covered ones in my collection of them. At coin shows I can usually get them for $10 each. At the prices for the on line version, just nost practical for me.
From what the add suggests though this on line version will be updated more frequently. Not sure of the purpose of doing that. For information, how much could change? For prices, always to high. AND the 2014 version will be out in about 5 months.

I know a lot of people will say this is useless, but it is really about time they made it available in electronic form. I am certain there will be enough people making this a worthwhile effort for Whitman.
