I've picked this coin up graded as MS62 by PCI. It's the only coin that I have graded by the company and to tell the truth I am unfamiliar with it at all.

I'm torn between leaving it alone or breaking to out and submitting it to a more familiar grading company.

Would the value that it is assigned to this year and mintmark by Numismedia be downgraded by a prospective purchaser given that it is not a better known grading company? And if it is would I be better off getting it regraded?

Yes, and probably.

Only the original green-border PCI slabs - of one specific generation I'll describe - are widely considered to be graded accurately. These slabs used 10-digit coin codes, and Futura-style typeface. That means perfectly round o's, s's, 6's and the like, and flat-sided zeros which look like rectangles rounded on the ends. The other (not good) green labels switched to a Helvetica-style font.

If you have the "good" slab as I've described, it'll likely cross at grade so submit if the cost works for you to profit. But post pics here first, so we can at least have an opinion.

As Dave mentioned, the green bordered holder would be more consistent with an appropriate grade.

I won't be able to post any picture for almost two weeks. But SsuperDdave my PCI slab does have a green border and does have a 10 digit identification number. The zeroes are as you descrive (flat sides and rounded tops and bottoms), the 6's rounded body with a straight pig tail proceeding from the 11 o'clock position upward and to the right. At the present time I have no comparision for typesets as my word processing software is open office and does not have either of the typesets that you mention. So based upon your description I'm assuming (you know what that means) that the label is in the Futura typeset.

Thanks for your input, but like I said I will be unable to post a picture for a couple of weeks.

However, I will add that when I purchased the coin from a local dealer I was hesitant to buy the coin because of my unfamiliarity with the grader. The dealer did say that it was an early label, but I marked that down with a jaundiced feeling on my part. So I went with my overall impression of the coin and went with my gut.
