Sometimes at a coin show I just can't find any USA coins that meet my requirements for the price-to-appeal ratio. In such cases I sometimes pick up world coins such as this British shilling. It has a light scratch on Victoria's portrait but otherwise looks nice and original to me. I also like the pronounced die clash on the reverse; Victoria's outline is clearly visible in the fields.

I believe this is a common coin and not worth much in circulated grades. Do you have any input on quality, scarcity, and/or value?

Thanks!

Although there were in excess of 3.1 million 1858 shillings minted they appear to hold their value well. These two links will give you more information not only on Victorian shillings but the coins of Great Britain in general:-

British coins of the 19th century are of particular interest to me, because from 1825, they formed the basis of Australia's coinage as well, until 1910.
