@poboxw
Thanks for the reply. My email is enabled. Do you know if the seller is in the Toronto area? I'd like to check it out either way. Thanks again.

That 10 dollar MS-63 looks high graded for what it is in the photos.

we talked about that listing previously and I agreed that the grading of MS 63 was generous but when you consider that the reverse is almost flawless the overall grade is probably close
by the way you may note that the seller seems to be pretty educated and professional and he may have some insider knowledge
but as far as the book Stinking Impressions goes...i will have to read it for myself when I can get a hold of a copy...lol

this is a quote from page 102 of the book Striking impressions 1984.....thanks to Coinsplus for the reference ""Most were destined for the finance department vaults in Ottawa where they formed part of the gold reserve required for backing the dominion notes.In fact the majority of the 1912-14 $5 and $10 gold coins are still held for the government by the Bank of Canada! "" end quote The author Haxby erred in saying the majority were in the vaults as it turned out that 37% only were in storage but it is clear that this knowledge was not commonly known by the Canadian numismatic community until this year!

@Redzapsid: You may want to give the mint a call and ask if (by chance) any of the coins you are looking for may be available (possibly from cancellations). It doesn't hurt to try.

Newbie here!
I managed to purchase all 3 $5 HS from the mint on Saturday and an additional 1912 HS today. Anyone knows where I can find a PHS $5 for a "reasonable" price?

I've never cared to ask for a premium selected. From people on this forum, the word is that there isn't a huge difference between the hand selected and the premium selected. Then again, I would like someone to mention some of their coins they have submitted for grading to a 3rd party and see what the coins came back graded as in both categories.
