take the coins to a dealer you trust ask for their opinion on grade, the 1913 14 10 dollar pieces according to the pcgs video if they dont grade ms 65 or better no need to send to a TPG. If you personally think the obverse is only a ms 63 there is no way the coin will grade higher. It cost a lot to insure coins to pgcs |

@ panda and John 100 the Panda ebay listing illustrates exactly what I'm seeing in these coins..MS 65 reverses with nice photos but are they MS 65 coins? according to JOHN 100 the obverse should determine the grade I note most of the ebay listings dont show a clear obverse picture and mostly you get large reverse pics |

that is because MOST of these coins are NOT going to be any better than ICCS MS60-62 they may show original skin and have nice eye appeal but due to the sharp high serrated edges of the, coins the obverses got hammered by bag marks. Just the way it is!

well I've just re-examined my PS 1914 5.00 and its basically MS 63 for sure which books at 3500.00 in both 2012 Charltons & Canadian Coin News Trends......and for which I paid 835.00..Reverse grades 65 Obverse 63 with lots of small bag marks and one lite scratch above ear im pretty sure the coins werent selected by professionals! and they may have used the reverses to determine the greater part of the difference between HS and PS but the RCM price is still way short of Trends..Up here in Canada we use Trends prices to determine retail value mostly and deduct a variable % to make a deal trends price for an MS64 coin of the above is 10,000.00! MS 62 Trends at 1600.00 |

Why pay $1199 forthe 1913/1914 $10 coins when you could still get them for $1000 at the Mint? |

the old trends are not valid anymore you are adding 30000 units to the population, plus with the info from the video. Mr. Cambell a premeir dealer brocker tells you the 1913 and 14 10 dollar coins has some ms 66 and maybe a 67 which I presume will be in the best of the best set. The pcgs pop report also tells you someone had early access to over 1600 coins grading ms63 or better, if one dealer was given early access probably oter dealers were allowed earle access to these coins . PCGS has a 6 to 12 weeks turn around time for grading.

The last count I saw had about 3500 coins graded (3300 at 63+). Based on the graded coins on pg 122, this does not seem that surprising, as they look similar to many of the coins posted on this forum.
You make a good point on waiting for what might be a 63 coin, the grade shouldn't change the longer you wait. I think the 1914 $10 will be an interesting one to watch, on one hand you have 15k high quality coins, but on the other 75%+ of the mintage will be melted. Does anyone know of a similar situation and what the impact was?

Trends on these coins will get slammed over time even with the melt.
There are far too many MS coins graded in such a small period of time
MS65 + will hold a premium
Anything below that I believe will come down to just over bullion melt
