The RCM boutique on Granville Street were selling the 1912-1914 $5 and $10 gold coins, both hand-select and premium select. They had the following quantities, first come, first served. Limit to one of each year. 1912 $5 gold - 5 hand select, 1 premium hand select. 1913 $5 gold - 4 hand select, 1 premium hand select. 1914 $5 gold - 2 hand select, 1 premium hand select. 1912 $10 gold - 4 hand select, no premium, none issued. 1913 $10 gold - 4 hand select, 2 premium hand select. 1914 $10 gold - 4 hand select, 2 premium hand select. About 20 people in the line up, the earliest lining up at 7 am to buy them. Once the store opened, there were a lot more people trying to get in on the gold coins. In the photo below, people lined up in the back of the store to buy the gold coins. What is left are the hand select and premium select located on the counter in the black boxes. The employee is serving the 4th buyer, and after her purchase, only one 1912 $5 coin, one 1913 $5 premium, and one 1912 $10 coins remained left (plus the other 1913, 1914 $10 coins) for the frenzy of other buyers in the background. Those in the Vancouver area can try the Mint Boutique on Granville Street. They have sold out of the $5 gold coins but still have $10 gold coins left. Both hand selected and premium $10 coins are left.
In case you are wondering, the premium hand selected $10 gold coins still have bag marks. It is not worth the extra $750.
I am in the line up but am hidden from view because of someone in front of me. BTW are you the guy in front of the line who bought all the $5 gold coins? When it came to my turn all the $5 gold coins were sold.
And the woman in being served in the picture failed to get a 1914 $5 gold coin.

I was second in line. We were told by the Mint sales rep. that we can buy only one coin of each year, so I bought one of the 1912 $10 hand-select, one each of the $5 hand select 1913, 1914, and one 1912 premium hand select $5 (only 50 in this premium select, and it's a fairly decent coin, very clear image of the king).
We (meaning the guy ahead of me, and behind me - complete strangers but serious collectors) were looking at the $5 1913 premium hand select, and we all noticed there was a deep, noticeable gash near the year, so that is why the first few buyers including myself, passed on that coin. Not worth the $875. When I compared to the 1913 $5 hand select coin that I substituted for, decided to go with that instead, and is it ever a beauty....better than the premium select, in my opinion.
If you chose the premium select, you could not buy the hand select. It was one or the other.

What time did you line up? I was there at 9:30 am but I could have gone earlier except I was not feeling very well.

Really nice to meet you coinplus. I was the third person at the line up. Still feel so lucky to be able to pick up the $5 hand select coins. I honestly thought I would not have a chance at the 1914 $5 coin. First time ever doing a line up in front of any store. Cheers

Those PS $10 were still there 15 min later when it was my turn. I looked at all four, chose only 1. It would have been nice to view the PS $5 and/or buy a HS 1912 $10, but they were gone when it was my turn. I'm at the back of the line in that picture, but you can't see me.

Wow, a frenzy on Granville street. So how did you folks even know they were getting these coins today so you could line up?
I'm wondering if I should put my extra 1914 $5 up on the local Craigslist. ;)

My final selection of this set is now marked as "shipped" No tracking information, but if they are true to their word, I should have the complete 'hand-selected' 6-coin set in hand by Friday.

Last thursday, they told us the gold coins would be available on Tuesday morning. Everyone kept pretty quiet about it and did not post the information on any of the coin forums. Otherwise there would be 200 people in front of the store, instead of the 20 lined up. Did not really matter as only the first 6 people had a chance at the $5 gold coins. |

No one knew each other... All oblivious to one another... It's not until people started posting here, then some recognized profile names started showing up. Yes, called in couple of times here and there. Got confirmation last Thursday from the staff that they would be on sale at 10 am Tuesday (today) and that they had very limited quantities. I scoped out this morning... Noticed one guy with a backpack waiting in front of the store... and wondering to myself...where the heck are all the other buyers?

Its pretty frustrating in missing the one coin you need to complete a collection. I don't fancy paying $1000 for a $5 gold coin that originally sold for $500.
The guy behind me was pretty happy. He was missing a $10 1912 coin and wanted a premium hand selected one. He looked at one of them and decided to go for the cheaper hand selected one. A guy had a magnifying glass and he showed all the bag marks on the premium coin.
J&M Coins is supposed to have these gold coins. Anyone know if they have them yet and how much are they.
