, graded coin slabs are quite unattractive. I try to grade my own coins and for those that come without cases, i.e. 20 for 20, I buy my own cases.

@ legouge, I was at "Unitrade" in Toronto yesterday, and a customer was looking for empty PCGS slabs. Let me know, where you got them from so I can forward this info. Thanks.

Marty, I have yet to buy one for my 20 for 20 because I am still collecting them, but when I'm ready, I will certainly be buying from this site: http://www.usadisplay.net/coin.htmHoop130, I do not buy empty PCGS slabs, just regular cases.

Quote: PCGS's offering.....I'm sure the ICCS won't be as flashy, but I appreciate their opinion.
That $5 1912 coin is very highly graded at MS65. Is that from a hand selected gold coin or a premium hand selected gold coin?

That $5 1912 coin is very highly graded at MS65. Is that from a hand selected gold coin or a premium hand selected gold coin?Neither, I'm sure it's a photo-chopped example....I can assure you that you aren't going to get a MS65 from a Hand Select purchase. I don't believe the RCM are "buried" treasures being offered here....in that you aren't going to get a MS63 from a HS, nor a MS 65 from a PS. What you are getting, is a nice coin, with great original luster, some history, and have been priced accordingly to the coin's grade being offered.

This is my first post on this coin forum. Thanks to COINSPLUS for introducing me to it. I was the first person in the recent unnanounced Vancouver RCM boutique sale of the Gold Hoard release last week. So I got the first pick and as there were only 2 1914 5.00 coins available I went for the PS one. It grades a solid MS63. I missed the original release date so I feel pretty darn lucky to have found out about the sale the evening before on my first ever visit to the RCM shop on Granville st. I asked about the gold release and the very nice salesman proceeded to tell me about the sale the next day so I was determined to be the first in line and I showed up at 7;00 AM! It turned out to be a wise move! As far as the quality of the Gold Hoard goes ..i did buy some directly from the mint and have received 2 10.00 coins so far and they grade out at 62 and 63. I'm not convinced that the PS coins are worth the premium as they all seem pretty baggy and even downright gouged and dinged. The reverses are unformly excellent 64 & 65s..The obverses are baggy. However the freshness and lustre is superb and that will raise the grade a notch I should think.....Very few are available through ebay so far but it would seem that the RCM is super inept at shipping them out condiering they had them for 100yrs ...it might take them another 100 years to ship them all out....worth waiting for tho...gotta go for the gold .... over and out

Hi ,my first post as well.Just waiting for my Hoard coins and was doing some research on PCGS site and noticed if I clicked on the number at the left of the screen on the population report beside 1914 $5 gold that it opened up and showed Base catagory and Gold reserve catagory .Seemed to be on all the canadian gold coins but no other canadian coins.Probably a newbie mistake but it shows more than a thousand graded coins and nothing lower than a 62 and some as high as 65 also surprised at how many 1914 $ 10 that were graded majority in 63. If I am wrong someone let me know.

@sbr; are you talking about the PCGS pop report? I'm not a member, but you probably could derive some of the info from the set registry, for example for 1914 $10, there 60 MS63, with only 12 graded higher...by their count.
@CASSIDY77: welcome, I didn't arrive until 10:20 last Tuesday, and there were 9 coins left by the time it was my turn. I agree with your grading assessment, but I am still very happy with the coins I have received so far. Pricing would be a lot nicer without the HST.
