I just heard the doorbell and look what arrived. My War of 1812 gold piece and 1912, 1913, and 1914 hand selected $5 pieces. My first impression was, wow... I can't believe I received the item in under 2 weeks. Then my impression about the 1912, 1913, and 1914 gold pieces. These are spectacular. The reverse of the coin has nice luster and few bag marks. The obverse has nice luster and more bag marks. All in all, I'm very happy and will leave them in their original cases untouched and ungraded.
Unfortunately, my camera cannot take good pictures for me to share with everyone.

Hi all. Many pages back I mentioned that out of all the coins I ordered, one of my two 1914 $5 coins arrived with the hologram ripped on one side at the coin holder seam, and the other hologram not even covering the seam, and the coin slightly askew in the foam. I contacted RCM about this and after sending them pictures and details about the delivery they agreed to replace the coin for me. I already have the new coin in the order system (I see it in my pending orders on the RCM site) and got directions for mailing this coin back. Very happy with the service from RCM on this. So while they say no refunds or exchanges, they are obviously treating this as a "damaged product" and replacing it. I hope the new (old) coin I get in return is at least as good as this one. I'm assuming that either the RCM held a few of the hand selected coins in reserve for this kind of thing, or a few others have had similar problems, and RCM is taking the back, re-seating and re-sealing them, and then sending them to others who had similar coin problems. I had a comment on people talking about RCM prices on gold (or silver for that matter) being overpriced. I haven't been at this long (numismatics) but I have already noticed that the RCM was very quick to raise their silver and gold prices rapidly during the big highs of a few years ago (Gold at $1900, Silver getting to $45/$49), and hasn't really reduced their prices at all to reflect what they were charging for numismatics when Silver was $30 and Gold was $1500/$1600 before these run ups. On the other hand, the US Mint does seem to reduce prices on their bullion / numismatics offerings; I recall several products being "temporarily removed" from their website for repricing, and the prices coming back online reduced. These $5 and $10 coins are probably the best "value" in numismatics, by far, that the RCM has offered in a few years, considering how crazy high their premiums are on all their other gold and silver offerings. And considering how much they're going for a bigger premium on ebay already, quite the investment. So does anyone take this as a sign of sorts that in 2013, if gold stays at $1600-$1700 or so, and silver stays at $30-$32 like it seems to have been doing for a while, that the RCM's newer offerings might be priced lower? |

It sounds like there may be 1 $5 dollar left, not sure of year, I just ordered a 1912 and 1914. In case anyone is still looking.

I'm glad people took my advice and called the mint to check for any leftover inventory. I was shocked when my rep mentioned that there were a few pieces left.

Thanks jsinger21, I am very glad you mentioned it, as I would have never have thought to ask my rep. I was sad to have missed the Vancouver store's coins last week as I really wanted the 1912 with BC Gold.
Hopefully this order arrives quicker than my first 1914 $5 (still waiting), lol.

The coins that were "damaged" are probable just going to be cracked open, re-positioned and sent back to the original buyer. That would be the fair way of dealing with the issue. It would really suck to send it back only to get a poor quality coin to replace it. In still waiting for my 1914 $5 hs so if anyone receives a replacement let me know so I can vent my frustrations further.

I probably get the "wrong person" from the customer service.
Tried to speak about $5 gold yesterday and few minutes ago...but, no - they do not have any in stock.
Looks like they checking online...

I would love to work at the RCM. I'd actually enjoy helping customers. Whenever I call, I ask if the rep collects coins. So far only one has said yes. |

It would be an expensive hobby to collect coins unless they were to read the redflagdeals forum for the hottest items and/or trends.

One of our employees here brought some donuts in the other day from his family owned shop. Someone asked him why he hasn't gained a bunch of weight and he says he never eats them....he grew up working in the shop and got tired of them. |

if you go to collectors universe you can see that the americans are cancelling in droves due to the long wait time and their impatience......and I'm sure most of them paid with credit cards as well..so it would appear that if you want to make your maximum order for these gems there is still maybe a hope..especially for the 1914 5.00 and 1912 10.00
