This coin is presently offered by TalismanCoins.com -- see http://www.talismancoins.com/servle...tail?no=2061

Does anybody know if this is a "real" (governmentally-issued, official legal tender) coin -- or, is it another of those "fantasy" coins previously shown in CCF -- like in svslav's post in https://goccf.com/t/80614&SearchTerms=greenland

I might find it interesting if it's a "real" coin, but I suspect it's just another "fantasy" thing.

Fantasy. Greenland is still part of Denmark, and still uses the Danish krone.

The older coins, from the colonial period (1920s) are, however, "real coins".

Many thanks for saving me from self-embarrasment. I'm going to go with the upcoming 1.5oz silver Canadian Polar Bear. It's considerably less expensive as well as "real"...

Agreed about the "fantasy". If one likes the design, why not buy such a piece - but it has nothing to do with real money. :)

Greenland is still part of Denmark, but it has a high degree of autonomy these days which covers pretty much everything except foreign policy and defense. About five years ago there were plans to issue special "Greenlandic" banknotes - but those would have been kroner denominated notes, at par with the DKK. (Pretty much what the Faroes have.) Ultimately, in 2010, the plan was dropped though. And there have never been any plans to issue new Greenlandic coins.

I do like the design, but I need to be more prudent with my hobby funds than spending $100 on a 1oz silver round. Right now, other 1oz rounds can be had for $35 and Canadian Silver Maple Leafs are $36.18. Either is a far better investment and would resell without a 66% loss.
