I have what I believe to be a fairly low serial numbered 1935 $1 silver certificate. I know nothing about bank notes, bills or certificates so I am looking for a little insight. The SN is D 00000316 J

The certificate is not in the best condition but I have been told that since the SN is so low, it may be worth a few dollars.

Thanks,

Yes,, That is for sure a low serial number note......The corner damage really hurts the value.. However, a collector of lo numbers may still want it...

According to the Heritage Auction site circulated Silver Certificates are worth about $1.25 unless they have a fancy serial number. The numbers that are considered low start with 5 zeros -- alas you have only 4.

However, I think that $1.25 is low -- even with the tear. But perhaps that depends where you try to sell it. There are still a lot of very nice uncirculated notes out there for sale.

I'd keep it...but then I've kept every one that I've ever found.

Forgive our poor manners ... what is needed is a CCF

Best wishes with your note.

to CCF. Is the corner torn off or bent over? I would think you could get a few dollars on ebay for it. I would also put it in a mylar holder. Nice find.

I am so embarrassed....I can count, honest, I can. I'm sure I did once or twice before.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Yes, the bill has (5) zeros and yes, the upper left hand corned is torn off unfortunately.

I know the condition defiantly hurts it and haven't been able to talk to anyone who had any sort if idea on value.

You may want to contact these guys http://www.oldcurrencyvalues.com/19..._dollar.html and ask about value even though they say they don't buy them. You could put it in an auction on ebay and start at .99 and see where it goes, just an idea.

Thanks for all the info guys. Got a few avenues to check out. Greatly appreciated!

I got this by trading a guy 4 quarters at a vending machine because it wouldn't read this bill
