Well, my wife bought herself a rather pricey Christmas gift for herself over the weekend and said I should go out and buy myself something nice as well. No need to twist my arm! I've wanted one of these for a long time and have debated back and forth over how much I'd be willing to spend, but at $300 I think I found a good match between cost and condition: I also purchased a Series 1914 $20 Federal Reserve Note off ebay that should come in within the next few days (I hope), but that will be featured in another thread when I get it...

That is a reasonable happy medium for this note. I've been going back and forth on how much I want to budget for my first educational. I've tinkered with $400-$600 but I haven't been too pleased with what I have found. I do like the condition of your example much better than what I have found.

Probably the prettiest note the US ever made, or is ever likely to. Merry Xmas!

Thanks. At $300, this was probably the most I have spent on a single note. I'd love to someday add the $2 and $5 Educational Notes, but they are significantly more expensive in decent condition so it may be awhile (if at all).

Gee, the last time my wife went out and bought herself a rather pricey item of any kind (a sterling charm bracelet from Tiffany & Co.) she came home and told I should buy her a new car. With that said, I love that note! I have one also but it is not as nice as that one, although it did only cost me $55 total. Here is the one I have.

Well, isn't that pretty! I have to agree that this is one of the nicest designs of all U.S currency. I'll say $300 well spent. This is the one that I have. Yours appears to be in better shape than mine.

I too love the note, and for $300 the condition is certainly acceptable.
I made the decision to not even look at these, I would either want all three denominations in VF minimum or none and I cant warrant the cost involved since USA banknotes are not really my specialisation.
I do approve of your purchase though, a big thumbs up :)

I've got one of these as well and it's one of my favorites. I never noticed till I had it for a while that the engraving work is so fine that you can read the Constitution on the right side: "The $1 Silver Certificate: The Obverse (front) theme is titled "History Instructing Youth." The illustrator, Will H. Low, chose for his theme the glory of our national heritage and features a panoramic view of early Washington, D.C. viewed from the Virginia side of the Potomac River, with the Capitol building and the Washington Monument dominating the landscape. Appearing within wreaths across the top, left and right sides are the names of the most prominent Americans throughout our nation's early history. Names such as Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, Franklin, Longfellow, Hawthorne, Calhoun, Clay, Webster, Farragut, and many others. To the far right rests an open book, both sides of which appear the Constitution of the United States. The Reverse (back) presents Martha and George Washington in separate oval portraits." quoted from.... http://banknotegallery.com/maingall...unotes2.html

ArrowsAnDrays - thanks for that link - that was the first time I'd read about the tranquility/tranquillity issue. This is one of the favorite notes in my collection.
