My kids think I'm a bit off but I get a kick out of spending two dollar bills. I ask the tellers at my bank to give me all the $2 they happen to have in their drawers. Usually it's only a half dozen or so. (Although once they had just received a full pack of 100 bills and I just couldn't say no.)

Anyway people always seem to get a thrill when I give them one. I often leave them as part of a tip.

Over the years I've received a number of 1950s series bills from the bank and I even once received a bill with a 1928 series bill.

I wonder how that 1928 made it through all these years.

That's a cool idea, I think I will ask for some the next time I'm at the bank.

You're certainly not alone, Bob! This has been discussed many times here on the forum and I am one of numerous people who shares your love of $2 bills. I try to pick up at least $20 each week, and once I even ordered an entire strap (100 count) of them.

Ditto, I usually give them out in transactions and then watch the "show" as the tellers try to figure out;

1. What it is
B. Is this real?
3. Where to put it in their till...usually under it.

Half Dollars and on occasion Ikes go out on to the table for tips as well.

Simple it was put up in someone's collection for many many years until for some reason it was spent. Usually someone passed and a son/daughter inherited the collection, or a kid sneaks it out of Dad's dresser drawer, etc.

I too love to spend two dollar notes. People's reactions are very different. In one case I had a person run across the room to buy them from me before I gave them to the cashier, on another I was refused service because of them.

I have even had the yellow pen taken to 2 Dollar Bills to make sure they are not fake. And also have been refused service with them. Most of the time it is fun to see peoples faces.

I heard a news report not too long ago(I think it was around last Christmas)that a man was arrested for trying to use a large number of $2 bills at a Best Buy here in NJ. The arresting cop said it clear that they were counterfeits because the serial numbers were sequential (The guy had just pick up a new strap from his bank.)

I just learned the term "strap" from barryg, thanks.

i hoard all the 2 dollar bills I come across. I like them too much to spend them though. not being normal in cirulation isn't always a good thing in my experience. the other night one of the cashiers had an old lady pay with 5 1976 series in uncirculated condition and to make sure they were real she marked every one of them with one of the counterfeit pen. it was so sad to notice those ugly marks put on the otherwise perfect bills.

I hoard all of my $2 bills too. I had a gentleman from the airport come in and pay with 4 $2 bills with sequnitial numbers. I talked him into buying dessert with the 5th one he had and then ibought them all out of the register. It was a great day.

I understand the desire to hold on to $2 bills but I think the joy of spending them, and seeing the reaction of people who get them, outweighs the fun of holding on to them.

I have kept one from each major series (usually the keys) for my type collection and let the others "roam free".

I really like the idea of calling it "setting them free" rather than just saying you spend them. That settles it, from now on I'm going to stop spending them and start "setting them free" instead.
