I had bough this coin, simply because it had a great design. The Coin is described as a Coriosolite Amorican Celtic Stater....approx. 20mm and 6.20g The piece is a Billon coin of "debased silver" The coin features a stylized head of Apollo?facing right and on the reverse a stylized Charioteer and Horse Boar below. This coin had been in a previous collection for over 25 years, but a very recent and wildly huge hoard was found on the Island of Jersey in the Channel Islands, located between Modern France (Brittany) and England....

See the Article here...

Also I found a great work shop software here....

I played around with this for quite a while and I learned alot about what I am looking at when I look at Celtic coins, this also helps you with attribution, chronology and to understand the development and significance of the style of these great coins. These coins where circulated as Julius Caesars Army moved West, driving the Gauls towards the Sea.

Love most archaic horse designs - but the celts had a real knack for it!

Are these massively expensive? I can imagine that most pieces would be missing parts of the horse, but this one is really well centered. I've always wanted a celtic horse but the prices for nice examples are very restrictive.

hahah ski that's funny...but I think AncientBroke would be more appropriate.

@Ben- These are not too too expensive if you look around you can find one in the sub-200 USD range, I have not seen many until I read that article, I have seen even less in as nice a condition as mine, but I can't say as I exclusively look for these types. I just though I had to have one.

I would love to see others share there celtic coins...of any other tribes. I know there are guys out there with them....

Very interesting and beautiful coin. The only Celtic coins I have are from the Iberian Peninsula and I believe I've shown them all here in the not too distant past. But great coin Abroke. Here's some dancing bananas for you.

Many of these coins have been found on Jersey over the past few centuries, which is probably where most of the examples available on the market have come from. I've had one of these for quite a while; it was my first Celtic coin. It's got character, to say the least:

I've only got a pic of the reverse on file, I'm sorry.

Ski yours looks to be imitating Philip II of Macedon, maybe from the Danube region... Just guessing though.

I agree it's an imitation of Philip II, but I wasn't sure from what region. So you think it's from the Danube region?

I have been looking to add some Celtic coins to my collection but particularly want some English ones (Durotriges etc the Celtic tribes from the north of England) So far I havent seen anything too impressive for the money I want to spend but give it time and I am sure I will join the club.

Interesting coins ^^ I approve :)

Hope you don't mind me adding another coin, but it is my second and last Celtic coin. Celtic Ring money circa 400 BC.
