I believe this will be the new key date coin of the ASE issue to date, and the 96 will move in to 2nd place. In my opinion out of all the silver eagles minted so far the 1987 is the best looking coin with the best over strike and luster without being a proof.

Bruce.
Rest in Peace

I agree with Bruce.

I'm happy we were able to buy a couple when they first came out.

I totaly agree with Bruce on the 2006 W ASE. I just took a quick look on ebay and they seem to be sell for around $80.00 and as high as $400.00.

Silly me, I only purchased one from the US Mint. When I realized what they were going to be, the Mint orders were finished so I cringed and purchased one on ebay a couple months ago for $50. I hated paying that much...looks like that is a bargain now

The rarity comes from the numbers minted and the way they were released. These weren't on sale until after the 20th Anniv sets debuted (August?) and they were only being minted "to demand" so in all the anniversary/reverse proof craze, they were overlooked. Late in the year, people finally took notice but by that time, mint production was winding down.

50,000 ASE 20th Anniv set
20,000 gold silver 20th Anniv set
