Take a look at this one:
http://www.numisbid.com.au/Browse/C...857--//8023/

Brilliant red, full lustre, practically markless fields and some minor spots at the base of the bust, but some fool decided it would be a great idea to clean those spots off destroying what was otherwise a great coin.

Absolute shame about the penny

But what an absolute pearler of a listing.
No BS, great pics plus enhancement and absolutely no deception with full disclosure of the coins problems.

This Sir should be an industry standard when selling coins on-line

Im sure it would have been a beauty. Sad thing is it isn't the first and its sure not to be the last that will suffer a similar fate.

Walter,
You could have listed it on ebay. By the eBGS ( ebay Grading System) used by some sellers it would be at least GEM UNC, if not PROOF.

Seriously, it is a pity. Surely everyone has heard the story about the found 1930 penny that was cleaned between the time of inspection and return with the money to buy it. Many versions of this story and nobody I have heard it from can actually identify the person involved -classic urban myth.
Obviously people laugh when they hear the tale but never think the moral could apply to them.

Most retail shops would call this coin GEM, at the very least CHU+/GEM. Australian dealers aren't too picky about cleaning hairlines and tend to reduce grades only for heavier contact marks - those hairlines wouldn't be visible under uniform lighting (like the lighting in most retail shops).

See I always thought that story was true but I don't know the people involved either. :o
