I have been looking for a really nice and lustrous MS grade 1935 and 1936 dollars for a while. I went to Canadian Coin and Currency and asked to see what they had for sale. They were very nice to bring out their entire 1935 MS63-65 box. They had a few decent 1935 MS-63s, none really looked that lustrous, but one grabbed my eye. The coin was ICCS graded MS-63 and the price was trends...$75. I asked if there was anything they could do about the price, they said just not charge the tax. I didnt know they would charge tax, but anyways I said I woud think about it since I could look for better offers online. I was not able to find anything ms-63 for under $80...at least nothing ICCS graded, just people's opinions

Should I go back tomorrow and buy the coin? I'm not really in love with it, but it was the nicest they have. Also does anyone here have any suggestions where I can buy perhaps $5-$10 below trends?

Thanks !

You said you've been looking for really nice ones for a while, why settle now?

Looks like a few PCGS MS-63s sold for about $45 recently on ebay. Keep your eyes open there.

honestly DON'T do it...

you can get MS-64 for around 90-100$, i'd try to get that. I got my MS-64 and now I'm trying to upgrade to an MS-65, trend for a 63 is 70$. you don't ever want to pay for trend, especially for a common grade

Royal you should be able to pick up a certified 63 ICCS 1935 for less than trends........fairly common coin. In fact I can 100 per cent tell you that you can buy a very pretty 64 ICCS white or lightly rim toned for 100-110 . Take a little time and search around. The market on that coin is a bit soft right now. Even MS 65 coins are 125-150 less than a couple of years ago. The key to successful coin collecting is patience combined with a good eye and some negotiating skills. Good luck!! J

Thanks guys, ebay has given me some great deals in the past, now that I have more time with my final year at university finishing up, I can begin hunting again.

I will keep you posted on what I buy in the relevant recent purchases thread.

Also, I was surprised to see that JandM had the 35 MS63 for $80...i usually thought they had lower prices

Don't buy it. You even said your not in love with it. There are lots of high grade MS63 or better 1935 dollars out there, so I would wait for one that you really like.

They made plenty of 1935's which were packaged in cardboard tubes instead of the usual mint bags. This significantly reduced the quantity of bag marks, leading to a much higher than usual proportion of MS64's and MS65's.

I've held off getting a lower grade one, as there are such a large number of higher grade ones at reasonable prices.

If you are in the Toronto area, wait for either the Torex or Coin Expo coin shows - chances are you can pick one off the bourse floor for about $60. Plus, it is a coin show, which is always fun - well worth the cost of admission.
