Strong point B as I ship an average on 3 or 4 things a week on average being small but they process hundreds if not 1000s of orders in fairness to the big boys.....

Actually, Ed, that does seem like a pretty quick turn around. Seven business days == 9 actual days for clearing your check (regardless of the actual date funds were pulled from your CU account) and is pretty standard. Maybe two to three days getting the physical check to Carson City, a day to process and deposit your check, a few days to pull stock and process your order. It's possible that Goldmart could have shaved a day or two off the total time to delivery but I'm not going to criticize any busy vendor for such a minor issue. I'm much happier knowing they'll do all they can to get my order right and delivered safely.
I do agree that I too would be mad about having my honest review edited for unfavorable content. That wasn't cool on GM's part.

Does anyone worry about the paper trail online ordering will create and the danger of future confiscation or is that just being overly paranoid?

The paper trail issues have been discussed before. I personally believe a confiscation scenario, even if it did happen, would be targeting far bigger game than your run of the mill coin collector. However, I do think it's far more likely that the IRS might in the future attempt to mine such records if they begin to suspect there are substantial unreported PM gains escaping their notice. Either way, for your average law abiding, tax paying citizen, the current risks seem small. Others here will likely disagree.

I agree with coin. While the government is to large and can do certain things if they really wanted to remember that they have a ton of stuff to do and small fish like us are at the bottom of the radar if were even on the screen. They only have so many resources and unless your a high roller most of the IRS resources will go to tax audits

I so agree with Baseball and Coin on that point as imagine this scenario at the next IRS meeting.... I am gonna need a team of you guys to get together and track and follow every buy and sell purchase regarding anything precious medal for roughly 1% of the US population (millions plus), you my team of 12, lol.... Track everything online from ebay to Amazon to coin forums we are gonna find out whats out there and how it was acquired, etc.... The first number crunching geek replies....No problem chief, see you in about 75 years when we complete our number crunching, lol.... To much to deal with already in this world, be it fighting crime and the sales of anything not taxed, be it booze, drugs, cigs, etc.... You compile that with mounting economic troubles that many wise feel could lead to complete and total economic collapse followed up with anarchy, marshal law, possible world war, etc.... Makes me think like B said so eloquently, "bigger fish to fry" Don't even get me started on the overall D grade of many bridges and inter-structures, dams, levy's, etc. which are 40 to 50 plus years old and in serious need of hundreds of millions of dollars in modern day renovations.... They have given me a hard time at USPS in the past about not having invoice with pack going international (forgot to print throw me in jail lol), "via make sure all numbers match", and I am like...."I sell gold and silver bars an coins and toys for crying out loud. People like me stimulate the economy and create commerce, like all that money I pay USPS to get my items from point A to Z safely.... I guess my point is if they actually get the time and money to start hassling the pm hoarders of the world everything must be fixed and hunky dory from sea to shinny sea, like CEO's and big corp figures with idle time, via the devils play ground. Lets change or tweak something, lol....

Thanks to everyone who responded to this thread. Lots of great comments for sure and all are appreciated. My takeaway from this is that 1) GoldMart did ship my order in a reasonable if not speedy manner, so no points taken from them for that. I know that it is possible to verify a check over the phone in 5-6 minutes but if they choose not to use their 800 lines for that, so be it; and 2) their editing of my review to make themselves look better was, I believe, blatantly dishonest and that is not tolerable. Because of this, and this alone, I likely will not be buying from them again. It isn't as if I MUST shop there or cannot find good deals elsewhere. APMEX and Provident are especially good for anyone buying in higher volumes, as they do offer some nice volume discounts at times or some other nice freebie, such as free shipping. Their sales can be pretty good as well. Thanks again, everyone!

Its like how no one declares online purchases for state income tax, the states know people are skipping that but either realize it would cost them more to employ enough people to do something about it or dont care compared to other things. The file sharing in the napster days was another good example, almost everyone did it but only the worst cases got any attention

I decided to place an order through Goldmart about 3 weeks ago based on their low prices and recommendation by others here, particularly barryg. After placing my order (and mailing my check the same day), on November 15th, I am still awaiting shipment. I tried chatting with them yesterday and they said they would email me back the same day with an update. . . never heard back. I also sent an email that went unanswered. Finally, after calling them and being put on hold for an extended period of time, I was told that they were waiting on shipment for items that I had ordered, and they still hadn't received them yet. This is pretty surprising to me. Nothing I ordered was out of stock at the time. I would assume a company such as this would at least try to notify you if your order was going to be delayed. Getting my items a week+ late isn't a big deal, but shouldn't the company at least let you know that your multi-thousand dollar order isn't going to show up when promised?
Like I said, not a huge deal, but a courtesy email that my order is going to be delayed would have been nice. I'm not trying to bash Goldmart. I just want to let anyone know that wants to get an update from them to skip the chat and email and call them directly.

I would think most businesses would service the heck out of a new customer in hopes of repeat business. I know at my job we do.

If they disagree with my comments, they can add their own to clarify their position. I have no problem with that at all. They also could have argued their case via email but that's probably more time consuming than it is worth. Quote: I would think most businesses would service the heck out of a new customer in hopes of repeat business. I know at my job we do. Yeah, Birk, a lot of companies do that. The one where I worked before retiring was well known for excellence in customer service and we got many new customers via referrals from current customers. Still, it is a business decision and every company has to decide where best to deploy their resources. In this case, the customer was not buying a lot but... this was a test buy from a customer who is considering the purchase of 25 oz. of gold. That may not be a lot to them but it sure is a nice start.
