My turn! Some contests I join in, others I give a miss due to my ignorance of US currency. To repay the fun I've had, try this:

Most of you will have read my signature quotation by E J Banfield, the 'Beachcomber" of Dunk Island. He was the Australian equivalent of your Henry Thoreau of Walden Pond fame.

This is the question: What animal was the "beachcomber' refering to in the quotation? Only clue, he saw it on Dunk Island.

Conditions:
One answer per member, everyone eligable,
Answers to be posted.
No editing answers.
If two or more correct answers, earliest date and time wins.
If no winner, the prize WILL be awarded at my descretion based on humour and/or originality
Prize;
A 1994 Australian $5.00 bi-metalic commemorative coin in a sealed display card.
A copy of Banfield's famous book 'The Confessions of a Beachcomber'.(the book is not new but out of my library)

Contest closes midnight, (2359 hours) Tuesday, 9th April.
Winner announced at my leisure.
Rest in Peace

Correction: Read the question as "The antics of which animal was the "Beachcomber' referring to when he uttered the quotation.

Technically it's a pregnant female green turtle with thin dovetailing plates.

Since it is to late to say green turtle, I'll say: his mother-in-law?

Hi everyone. I know I stated that the contest would run for a week but it seems pointless to continue seeing as the correct answer was given in the first post. Had there been a prize for the second correct answer, it would have been won also. Green turtle.
I will therefore declare to contest closed and award the prize to Snooba. Congratulations Katheryn.
Thanks to those offered an answer and those who bothered to read the thread. I'll try and make the next one harder.
regards,

(please email me your address Snooba)

Prawn took the coins and I got the book, so we're both happy!
