I just recently got into coin collecting and that has led to my long time dream of getting a metal detector. I hope it gets here soon because I live in Wisconsin and it isn't getting any warmer out. Are there any laws, regulations, rules that I need to follow in wisconsin? I planned on staying on private property (family, friends, neighbors) but was considering some schools or city parks, would that be ok?
Thanks in advance for any suggetions. Cory

Parks are generally okay as long as you follow the code. Which is leave the grounds the same way you started, dig plugs so that way you can re-insert it with little to no damage. Pick up the trash you come across. As for schools, you might want to get permission to search those, they can be funny at times. The big bit of advice, always ask for permission.

I cant speak about your local laws, but as kookox touched on, its important to follow the detector's code of conduct. Theres a list somewhere. Its etiquette for a detector - stop the bad rap that the hobby has. OH, and dont detect anywhere you dont have permission. Bad thing to do. If they dont give you permission, take it in your stride, and if they do, make a written agreement beforehand on the ownership of the finds. Theres a form somewhere for it - its a permission slip which explains the code of conduct and secures the finds as yours.
