Anyone have any luck on craigslist lately?
Seems like the last time I managed to "score" a deal on CL was almost a year ago. I check it regularly but anymore it is all "wolf in sheep's clothing" types of ads. If you manage to find a good ad and actually respond to it, 9 times out of ten it is a complete waste of time.
Let's hear your recent stories, either good or bad.

I do pretty well in Phoenix, most cities that aren't insanely busy aren't worth browsing... There is sometimes that one random good ad but they are few and far between.
My success rate on craigslist (everything that I buy) is about 1/25 calls/people is worth visiting. I used to e-mail, call, and text a ton of people.

The one and only good thing I can say about CL is that nobody I ended up dealing with out of a CL hookup has yet tried to rob, kidnap or kill me. Other than that, my stories are all bad news. Even the CL "garage sales" are mostly amateur junk resellers who think they're the local kindred of all those American Pickers and Pawn Stars type clowns on TV. Running down CL leads has been as productive a use of my time as trying to sell life insurance in a cemetery would have been. I'm done with CL.
Hope others have had less dismal results than I've had...

Yeah, FatFreddy, who wants to deal with more wanna-bes? Little big men and women. I haven't done anything with CL and you've refreshed my memory about why I don't. But, then again, I am too cynical about human nature. Try and stay away from those closet hawkers and find fun elsewhere. Your post has been good for me, for I know I haven't been having enough fun with collecting lately, taking it a bit too seriously. Thanks for your good posting.

About 5 years ago, when Craigslist was still in its early days (for me) I scored a nice vintage Rolex head. The poster had a picture that looked like his camera lens had Vaseline smeared all over it. I got him to bring the watch to me. I got it for 450 and sold it for 950. It had some issues but was still a good deal. I never got any coins or gold from CL.

About 2 months ago I posted looking for bulk foreign, older the better. Got one bite. About 15 Coins for 5 bucks. Some pretty interesting things, one coin ended up being an easy $100 bv, 1875 Denmark 5 ore plus some other 1800's and a nice 1852 Upper Canada 1/2 Cent.

I answered a ad for 200 wheat pennies for $15.00.. When I got there the coins were in a jar and I asked if he was sure their were 200. He assured me their were at least that many. As we talked he decided to throw some Indian Head cents. When I got home and counted, I had 662 wheats, 11 steel pennies, 33 indian heads from the 1900's and 24 pre 1900. Total --730 pennies for $15.00. I did have another nice buy of wheats at 3 cents each at about the same time. Sometimes you get lucky.

I gave up on craigslist awhile ago for most of the reasons already mentioned. The ads that aren't outright scams tend to be inferior coins at inflated prices. Beyond that I'm getting nervous engaging in business with strangers no matter how public the location. I'm afraid just announcing I'm interested in coins will make me a target. I've lived too long to trust my fellow man all that far.

i love selling on kijiji (my local version of CL) because I can usually sell AT trend or a bit above (also why I don't buy on CL)
i can usually manage to get spot for junk and the 5-6$ premiums for CSM and ASEs, even if i'll never pay those prices

Today on c-list I bought a complete dansco 8145 for $35. Its the PDS and S silver set of dc and territory quarters. The 6 silver quarters alone are worth more than $35.

It's the third time I bought from the same guy on craigslist. HE had a bunch of stuff overpriced and then stuff underpriced. lol. A few weeks ago I bought a complete ike set in a dansco off him for $100. Sold on ebay for $185.

The few times I initiated an ad my success was decent. Responding to an ad has never yielded good results.
Push worked better than pull for me, but it's been a while.

I've come across a few on craigslist however I've debated posting on here to see if it was a steal or not. Not very many people in Dallas looking to buy though, which sucks. I threw one of my smoker tokens up on craiglist and no one knew what it was. However I've been looking at a 1876 P Seated quarter thats for sale for 10$
