to CCF! Is it a Capped Bust Half? There are 2 holes for these 1807-36 lettered edge & 1836-39 reeded edge. The lettered edge is larger than the reeded edge.

It is an 1818 Lettered edge. I put a brand new small lint roller into the hole and as gently as possible pushed outward. The lint roller was soft too so needed some pressure but was able to make the hole a little bigger with no I'll effects

Mine was a tight fit as well. I used a pencil to "work" the hole. It was still a tight fit, but not as tight.

The early half dollars vary in diameter a tiny bit, but this is enough to make some of them difficult to put into the slot while others tend to rattle around. You may want to use a blade and carefully shave some of the slot away to make it larger.

I just had a similar problem with a quarter. I took both top and bottom clear covers out and it slipped right in. Something about removing the bottom / reverse side that allowed it to slip in.

I tried leaving it alone for a while then then trying again hoping it would shrink on its own, no luck

Xacto knife. With a new blade this will be VERY sharp (be careful!!) but you can remove see-through slivers, one at a time, til the coin fits.
