I finally figured out the downloading thing and got the reverse of this series 69A 1$ bill that I have had for many 30+ yrs. The obverse is normal toned. This is the only time that I have ever seen one. I went to my local dealer a he said it was not tampered with and he hasnt seen on like it either. Do You banknote experts have any good ideas? Maybe a rare piece, I hope Thanks Gary

Hi.
I'm not entirely positive but I think it is bleached from lying in the sun -- like it got left on a windowsill. It may have been wet and set out to dry.
It is not likely to be a BEP error.
However it is old and I'd keep it just for that reason. But I keep just about everything...

Thanks Buddy, I thought the same also, but its very even all over and the dealer here looked at it and mentioned it didnt look like sun bleaching, but who knows. I dont know of a way to test it. It is a fairly worn bill. I am hoping someone has seen another somewhere. Gary

Oh, for the record. The bill is clearer than it shows. My camera made it dimmer than it is and I`m having trouble doing the downsizing that is made me do. I need some kids to help me be computer literate. I was born when I had to work all my problems out with a pencil and paper.

A bit too much of a coincidence, if you ask me. Was there a change in dyes peculiar to that issue?

I did a Google search and found a topic posted on another currency forum and wouldn't you know it... the note is a 1969. When I first saw the topic posted a while back I was sure it was altered chemically or by light (as Buddy suggested) and I still think that is a possibility. But I also think it is possible that there was a different ink used on those 69 series notes. If that is true I sure don't know. *Edited to Add* I found this one on ebay but it is a 1963: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1963A-DOLLA...230852449545On thing to note, so far it is always the reverse that is yellow and the obverse is normal.

Well, that is a bit of a coincidence --- so garys64wildcat what's the serial number on your bill? Is it from the same block?
Or maybe one person had both bills in his wallet when he fell out of his boat. Then he swam to shore and set them on the dock to dry.....

I had a similar bill come.thru work about a month ago. I let it go thinking it was damaged. Kinda wish I hadnt now. I'm pretty sure it was a 69 as well. No clue as to block or serial number.

I would say that mine is not the only one. So far I have noted 4 differened Fed. reserve dist. on the ones shown. possibly one more . I got my note in the 1970`s era in Wa State, We dont get enough sun here, lots of moss Now I'm curious! I dont like to not know why something is the way it is. And I know a lot of You feel the same way I do. Thanks to All who have answered this post and to any that have any ideas or answers, Bring em On

This is curious....
Will everybody with a 'yellow' bill please post a photo?
We'll get to the bottom of this one way or another.
However, if it was a printing error it seems to me that there would have been a lot of them out there at some point in time and it is unlikely that lots of errors got released so, it is probably faded.

Thanks for the feedback,
How would you have these notes tested?
Since I have seen 4-5 different ones. From all parts of the country. And all have the same color on the reverse. If there are anymore out there please let us know. A local coin shop said that it may be in the printing ink and that they destroyed most of them, But!
Thanks to those who have sent photos.

What kind of test are you thinking of?
I expect it would be next to impossible to figure out anything about the ink.
If you have a normal bill from that series, you could leave it on a sunny windowsill and see what happens.

Thanks to All who have answered this post and to any that have any ideas or answers, Bring em On This thread has brought up more questions than answers. My first thought would have been altered in some way also but just seems weird that its always the Reverse and usually on the same series note that has the yellowing ink. I have no answers and can only add I have seen certain ink types that throu7gh time did fade a yellowish color like this. I have seen it with signatures quite often
