About once a month I hit my local BoA branch for a box or two of nickels or cents and whatever else interesting they might have.
I never get my hopes up that the box of cents or nickels will be "old" coins (about every other box is bright and shiny). Nothing wrong with bright and shiny but it doesn't fill Dansco holes.
So, this time my cents and nickels boxes are not new coins; can tell from the little "Connect 4" view holes on the box: Score #1.
My typical MO after getting my cent/nickel boxes is to ask the teller, "do you have any half dollar or dollar coins?" This time the teller said, "let me see". I said, "OK". He went off and asked around. One teller asked... "I have a big silver one, do you want that?" Of course I said "yes. I'll take that Ike!" (Few know what to call these giant dinner-plate-sized relics these days, so I think I might have confused them with the "Ike" thing).
First time I've gotten an Ike from the bank in a couple years of asking. Score #2.
Another said, "I have the small silver ones, do you want those?" I said "yes" again. Third teller said, "I also have a few gold ones". I said I'd take them too. Ended up with about $30 of SBAs and golden dollars that I need to sift through tomorrow. As well as a couple of Kennedys.
What's score #3 you ask?! Well, it's the general glory of the first time I've gotten every odd coin currently in circulation in one trip from the bank: Ike,
SBA, Prez, Sac, and Kenenedy.
Lots of fun and it's the kind of thing we all live for (I think - if not, I'm in the wrong forum). Happy coin hunting!
