Hi All,

I was just looking through my coins and found this one, I may of posted it last year but unsure. Anyway The photos are below and was wondering if I can get a little help on how to value it.

It appears to be a Seated Liberty quarter or Dime? The Reverse was altered with some inititals on it as seen in the photos. And on the front you can see where the pin was held.

Here are my questions.
How much could it go for on the (favorite auctioin site)?
How much would it sell for just for silver content?
Is the value of the coin ruined because of the Civil War pin transfer or could it go up as more collectible to the right buyer?

Thanks all for the help, I know they are stupid common questions but running into a jam here with car repairs and Xmas coming up ect... So if it had a decent shot of $100+ on the (favorite auction site) then maybe I should take that route, but if there is no real difference then sell it locally to a coin/jeweler shop for its silver content for a quick buck.

THanks :)

This shows the size of it compared to a nickle and dime.

It is a Seated Liberty quarter made into a very well done "love token".
It is worth little more than melt.
Search your favorite site's completed auctions for "love token" to see comparable coins to see what the FMV is.

Love tokens like this one were also made when someone died, in rememberance of them. They were usually finished w/ black or blue enamel, which this one doesn't have... so probably an actual love token

Sometimes love tokens bring good money on ebay. I saw one once that was really nice but the sniper got sniped.

Thanks all of you, I will try my best to get it to the bay. And also post some more of my coins on here in their proper threads.

I am unsure of the bay rules on here, but will look into it if I put it up. (man o man thinking about putting it up now so I don't for for the quick temptation to the local coin shop)

I ended up putting it up. I figure my car gets about 20mpg. The store I was going to go to is aprox 10 miles away. So with the melt down value of being around $5.50 I would of only profited $1.50 and at the expense of wasting an historic item that meant alot to some family at one time.

Thanks again for all your help everyone.
