Hey, as you all know I put together a completed 7070 type set. I am now working on the optional Gold Page. I just received a 1904 Double Eagle in a broken PCGS MS63 Holder and I am hoping you can help me determine whether it is definetly genuine and re-gradable at some point as an MS63. No one has showed me how to take good pictures of coins with the camera that I have, although I know it's possible and I would like to learn how! I just took about 30 pictures experimenting with the Macro feature and here are the best ones. lol. I also want to post some of the worst attempts so you can tell me what I was doing wrong.

I am not a photography expert and I am sure others more experienced will chime in. There are a few things that I can think of that could improve the pictures. Shoot the coin in macro mode, with no flash. The camera should be directly above the coin and preferably on a tripod or copy stand if you have one. You probably want some lighting shining on the coin from almost directly above.

From the pictures provided, it is tough to say if the coin would grade MS-63. Though I can't say for sure, I don't see anything particularly suspicious with your coin.

I'm going to go ahead and move this to the forum we have that's dedicated to coin photography.

First think: If you want to shoot them, those coins are going to have to come out of the Dansco.

Im far from a photography expert, usually just use my cell phone lol.

The two things of advice I can say though are take the coin out so the slides arent over it to photograph and turn the flash off. Make sure you have lots of other light lighting the coin but the flash will create those super bright spots from the reflection like you see in the 3rd and 4th photos.

you also (in addition to what has been said above) want to be looking straight down at the coin instead of at an angle. I have taken pictures of my album with the coins in the album ( as a matter of fact all the shots of the album in my signature were taken with the coin in the album) but its better to take the slides out so there is no glare from the light source. You also seem to be really shaky so some type of tripod or something may do wonders as well. I do like a sniper when I hold my camera in hand I will take a deep breath and right before I start to breathe out I take the shot. I always have to make sure my arms are steady on something also and try to hold the camera as steady as possible. These things may help a lot with your pictures
