Good morning everyone.

I've a dime from 1842 that I have a question on. The wear on the details seems much more than what appears on the rim and I'm curious as to how this might happen. The only thing that comes to mind is a extremely weak strike.

I was wondering what others might think.

Looks to be an O mint mark. Also looks like it might be a broadstrike?

Broadstrike
Coin struck without a collar, thus when the coin is struck the metal is allowed to expand and increase in diameter. May be centered or uncentered, but must not have any missing lettering or design detail. I am surprised that no pro chimed in yet.

A broadstrike will also invariably result in a plain edge. The Seated Liberty dime should have a reeded edge, so if yours is plain... Also, I imagine that the extra metal that flows outward might explain the weak details.

I took a look at the edge and found it to be irregular also.
