We currently have 4 circ commem sets in the Lowball section of the registry if anyone would like to look and see.(There are more listed but they are not circ) Not Mint to Be, Chesapeke Collection, Circulated Commems and Worn Out. Another circ set is the Higashiyama Collection in the regular section of the Registry. This was the set that really got me going when I first started serious collection. At the time Braddick also had a set there and this was before the Lowball section of the Registry. Umakem was also in the Lowball for a good long time. Several of these commems are now is several of the above mentioned sets.

So if someone tells you there are no circulated commems we know better.

I just took a quick peek at them - they are beautiful! I love the Oregon - at AG3, it is still a stunner.

I will state unequivocally that Not Mint to Be complete type set of honestly circulated classic silver commemorative is an amazingly difficult collecting accomplishment that must have taken many, many years of dedicated searching to acquire.

When I started chasing these coins a few years back that collection was a tremendous beacon for me ... giving some hope that a complete set was possible ... and setting the standard for low-ball excellence that will never be exceeded.

To some collectors the idea of "Registry Sets" brings forth mental images of well-heeled investors paying crazy prices to chase the 'numbers' in a self-serving way ... that is not the case with the small but tight-nit circulated commemorative collector community.

All of us know each other and regularly correspond via e-mail to share the joy of ordinary (not rich ) folks connecetd by a passion to achieve a very difficult collecting goal.

This is a very difficult collecting goal to achieve ... and as I have shared personally with the OP ... anyone with enough $ and some paitence can replicate my humble MS commemorative set ... but it takes a special passion to wait for years hoping the market makes available many of these coins.

Those are my views ... and I'm sticking with them.

David

Kudos to those pursuing these difficult to assemble sets! They certainly require patience and dedication - virtues often absent in today's world.

Years ago, I decided to supplement my mint state set of US commemoratives with closely related historical ephemera and exonumia (i.e, medals, badges, etc.) -- some of which I've displayed here on CCF. In doing so, I decided not to pursue a circulated set - although I did consider working on a complete set in XF at one point. So, I can honestly say that the posts I enjoy the most here in the commemorative section are those featuring the circulated coins. They give me the chance to vicariously "collect" these intriguing pieces of history and learn about an aspect of the hobby through the generous sharing of others!

Thanks!
