I've looked and haven't been able to find anything, does anyone know of something out there that will allow you to view both sides of a coin at the same time under magnification?

You can view both sides of a coin with no magnification using a mirror, but the focal lengths using a mirror that way would be for magnification. The only way with magnification might be to have two USB microscopes facing each other and the coin placed between them.

that's what I was thinking too, but I was wondering if there was anything already out there, if there is I can't seem to find it. I was thinking about making something were I could easily flip the specimen, but then you would have to load it, flip it....

I was thinking about a trinocular microscope where you could mount a usb video camera or some type of an inverted viewing scope with dual triocular heads with 2 cameras.

was also thinking too that if you mounted them with a type of manual carrousel where you could "load" a bunch of coins to be viewed in a tube. the loaded coins could drop one at a time into pockets in the carrousel you could cruise through coins super fast.

even with two microscopes the coin would have to be on a piece of glass so you could get far enough away so you can focus. You would also need to have some type of lighting on both sides that didn't effect the other camera/microscope. This just seems like it would be much easier to just flip the coin and look at it one side at a time to me

Seems like it would be much easier to simply take a picture of each side and see them on the monitor.

why would you want to do this? I was just going through a bunch of coins looking for errors and was trying to figure out a way to do it faster, I have a 25" monitor and could split screen it so I can see both sides at once all blown up. I have spent a lot of time looking through and using microscopes so it's kind of an easy step for me to make.

i have though about this more today and was thinking the same thing about one light affecting the other camera, and had though that maybe some kind of mask the size of the coin on either side. and now thinking about having the coin sit on it's edge with a camera on either side and a dimple or something to index the coin, push one coin in and the other one pushes through. also today I was thinking, yes I may have too much time on my hands, if you could add some OCR software you may even be able to get it to sort specific dates or characteristics on the coin.

Two USB microscopes with built in LEDs suspended and focused above and below a vertically locked but horizontally movable glass pain could make for some seriously quick checking!

Just empty your coins onto the glass and move it so they all pass the focus point, bazinga! Go the whole hog and get a second monitor if your graphics card supports one (or if you have a laptop, they all support 2nd monitors) then you could display huge images of each side simultaneously.

If nothing else it would look seriously cool

Bazinga --Big Bang Theory, love it.

I ordered a USB digital microscope, I have one that I can use at college and plan on taking my laptop and see what I can do with 2 cameras. If I can get it to work on the laptop I will order another and play with my desktop and see if I can get it to work. I have built some off the wall stuff before, I like the idea of the glass, I hadn't thought of that, but had thought of trying to put them between slides, it has to be fast or what's the point. So with a big sheet of glass I could set it up to move around like an old school microfiche. I have a good size piece of tempered glass and plexiglass that would work perfect so I will have to try that one.

I also thought maybe I am just trying too hard and need to just get one of those old school magnifier/visor things......
