I am looking for more specific information that relates to "Halton Victory" and the date of "Sept. 9, 1884" on this medal.

In Canada the temperance movement reached its peak in the 1920's and this period is the most common known. There is a long and interesting history that is less well known. From what I have been able to find in 1864 the Canada Temperance Act was passed ( also called the Dunkin Act ). Several years later the act was reacted upon by parliament in 1878 (this one known as the Scott act ).

From this point on I have not been able to find any thing on what the Halton Victory refers to or the importance of the date Sept. 9, 1884. This medal was made by P.W. Ellis & Co. of Toronto.

Any & all information is appreciated............

Nice!
Hate to see this go without a reply.
The Canada Temperance Act gave local governments the right to control liquor distribution and consumption. In 1881 Halton County became the first county in Ontario to ban liquor,in 1884 the electorate of Halton voted to keep this measure in place.Perhaps your medal commemorates this vote.

Thanks DBM, you hit the nail right on the head...

All the credit and a big thanks goes to Conder101 for giving me the history on the medal as follows:

During 1884 and 1885 many communities had referendums calling for the repeal of the Canadian Temperance Act of 1878. The City (Municipality) of Halton voted on the matter on Sept 9th 1884. Of 6047 voters 3714 cast votes with 1947 voting against the repeal and 1767 voting for the repeal. The Canadian Temperance (C T) was sustained.

The information came from the Sessional Papers of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario 18854 - 1885, as per this link page 333:

The one strange thing is that so far I cannot find this medal listed in any books and the 2008 book on Canadian medals does not have it listed either I am told...Halton being a small county at that time with total voters in the 5000 range I would assume that there's a good chance that not very many of these medals were made..
