My daughter is a barista at Starbucks. The other day, she came home with an Indian Head cent she found in the register. Her manager let her take it home, so long as she replaced it with another penny of her own! It's a 1904 in VG condition. She was thrilled, and I was amazed! There is definitely a story there that we'll never know....

Nice find! I like to think it might be a seasoned collector, trying to generate interest in the hobby. Although, there are less noble things that may have happened.

I love Starbucks! My nephew has a customer who often pays in silver! He has told her that her coins are worth much more but she continues to pay with some silver. He, too, swaps it out for clad coins.

Good idea, jbuck! I actually have considered "seeding" my pocket change with some common date IHCs I've accumulated. Maybe after seeing my daughter's excitement, I'll actually do that during my Christmas shopping.

ProfLiz, nice find, I'm happy for your daughter. We just may have a new collector in our midst. I've often thought to put some of my no-date Buffs into circulation or maybe dropping them into the bags of kids trick or treating. Buffs are beautiful coins, even when they're worn to the point of not having a readable date. I think anyone would be thrilled to get one in change. Well, that settles it, I'm going to set 10 or 20 of the old fellas free. Thanks for the great idea jbuck.

You are welcome, but I cannot take credit for it. This sort of thing has gone on for years; I am glad to see that it will probably continue on for years as well.

COOL FIND! An Indian in the wild. I have never found one roll searching or in change.

Yeas, I was just thinking the same thing. I've looked through my pocket change ever since 1968 and have never found an IHC.

It's always fun to find something unusual like that.

I've found two in a year, but I work at a gas station. Always fun when you get one!
