I've been collecting commems for a while now and I've never heard of this variety. Coinfacts says thst it's "rare."

Is it worth bidding on?

This is a long ago recognized variety in the classic silver commemorative series and my look at the seller photos indicate that this is indeed a genuine 1925 Stone Mountain DDO half dollar.

These are not 'rare' IMHO ... I come across them on occasion at shows and on-line ... although there are no accepted population figures to go by.

The market today does not place a pricing premium on this variety ... so the best I can offer to your question of 'should I bid' is to evaluate the coin as you would any Stone Mountain half ... and offer that amount plus whatever 'extra' you feel the DDO is worth to you personally.

As nickelsearcher noted, the Stone Mountain half-dollar is one of the classic commemorative half-dollars to have known, minor doubled die varieties; obverse and reverse doubled die varieties are known.

Per CONECA, there are two obverse varieties known. The DDO-001 variety has visible doubling on the date, the "Stone Mountain" inscription and on the "In God" portion of the motto. The DDO-002 variety has the same date and inscription doubling, but lacks the "In God" doubling. From the seller's images, I can't see any doubling on "In God" but that may simply be because zoomed in images of that area on the coin were not provided.

With more than 400 DDO Stone Mountain coins graded by ANACS, NGC and PCGS, I agree that the coin is fairly common and does not generally require a premium price when sold.

Good luck if you decide to bid for the coin!
