Wow, it's much harder to photograph gold and I'm also finding it difficult to assess grade. Your input will be much appreciated.

Well... Its damaged...

I believe that it has either VF or XF details, but could be wrong.

Looks like most of the gold coins we have are damaged. I'm trying to figure out what they are worth and am having trouble figuring out not only grade but how the damage figures in to the possible value. Haven't looked closely at all of them yet and I find more damage when I look at enlarged photos. Hope I find some relatively unscathed gold.

Interesting how this coin has sustained lots of minor impact damage, but not that much wear.
My guess is that it spent some of it's early life in a miner's pocket, along with gravel, that may have come off mineral samples.
If only this coin could speak!

Because of the damage, VG.

Appears to be XF Details. Unfortunately to a collector, not worth much over melt in this shape.

I agree that its XF details, but these things are always worth premiums over melt. Even holed examples are regularly selling on ebay for $30 premiums over melt value so long as they have a date thats visible. If it weren't for the damage it would be an XF 40 in my opinion.

It looks like EF details to me. Cleaned and possibly ex jewelry.

XF Details - Mount Removed. $82 worth of gold there. Maybe $120 retail to the right buyer.
