Dang, another damaged gold coin. Can you help me describe a grade and how does that damage affect value?

I would think that about 30% to 50% of the premium for grade, over and above the gold value, would be lost with the amount of damage shown here.

Thanks for that info.

So scratch and dent aside, what grade would you give it?

I'm out of my realm to suggest a grade in this range of the hobby.

But I just have to say what a shame such a beautiful coin was damaged. Eventually the price of gold will exceed whatever price discount is necessary to interest a buyer.

Mid AU details seems about right. Probably would be worth around melt.

The good news is the scratch has no effect on the value. This is an common date, circulated coin and would be worth (essentially) melt value even if it were problem-free.

I would grade it AU Details - Scratched/Cleaned. Valued at $415 today.

AU-50 details and looks like it may be an ex jewelry piece. Looks polished.
