OK I was looking though N.N. ( Numismatic News). they had a story about the searching 70 rolls. he had a list of his finds. he stopped his listing at 1975 and then add 1982-P. I had to look up why he had the 1982 listed. I saw it was a very somewhat low mint.
here are the numbers for the 1982
1982-P 292,355,000
1982-D 373,726,544
so my question? Is there anyone else out there hoarding 1982 nickels. and if not do we think they are worth starting to hold on to at that mintage. I know it is still somewhat high but it is a lot lower then most year later in the 80 and into the 90's or did the author's maybe have another reason for listing these.

opinions please

IMHO, I don't understand why they listed that. IMO, a low mintage for a coin is under 100 million, a scarce mintage is under 50 million, and so on. But if you want to save them, don't let me stop you.

There were no mint sets issued in 1982 or 1983. So quality coins of those years are scarce. Those days had weak strikes so it's hard to find a good speciman. Higher grades of those have nice premiums.

nds has the right answer there were no mint sets for 82 and 83 , any of the 82 and 83 coins in AU and above carry a nice premium,, I keep all of the 82 and 83 of all denoms I find that meet the above standards,, there is no reason to keep the very low grade specimens .

True, I didn't think of that. That probably is the reason.
