Hi,

new to collecting here. Was looking on ebay and I was wondering
what are the chances of finding high grade 65 and above coins within an
original Mint Roll? These high grades are for proof condition/mint sets
basically? as I understand the handling of loose bin coins into the roll machine would really cause the coins to go down in grading anyway, even though they never landed up as pocket change?

Hafa Adai from Guam!

thanks and regards
pete

Mint rolls and the rolls you get from your bank are of the same quality.

NDS is correct in his statement, there is no special treatment given to the coins in mint rolls. They are the same as the one's you get from the bank. Also the coins in mint sets do not not receive any special treatment the idea that mint set coins are untouched by human hands just is not true.

The one thing about the mint sets of the last couple of years they do have a satin finish unlike the regular business strikes.

The odds are not good but they vary widely from one year to the next and from denomination to denomination. Some coins are made quite well and finding gems is not uncommon while some have been so bad it's possible there were no gems whatsoever released to circulation. When you do find a gem there is a high probability that there will be more gems in the same roll and the rolls from the same source will also contain gems.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

As stated above, the coins from the mint and the ones we get from a bank are rolled by the same company. However, I do notice there seems to be more of a premium on ebay for the mint rolled coins. I think this is because a mint roll could be considered truely un-searched, where as a bank roll coin could be searched and re-rolled ?
