It is Anoob, it covered a few things I hadn't even thought about, it also has a bit on clipping siliquae, fascinating.

Definitely a bookmark-worthy, fascinating article, thanks for sharing it! Was browsing Acsearch when I came upon this fine example of Ostrogothic coinage, a coin of Theodahad (534-536), minted in Ravenna. IMO better and more real-looking (with regards to the bust)than a lot of the Roman coinage from the previous two centuries. If you look on the reverse, you'll notice S-C (Senatus Consultum - "by authority of the Senate") in the fields, something not seen on any Roman coin since the 3rd century. This demonstrated the renewed influence the Roman Senate gained under the Ostrogoths, which had declined greatly in the last centuries of the Western Roman Empire.

Thats a great coin You can see clearly how its design has been influenced by the coins before it. Just checked the prices and I very much doubt Santa will be bringing me one this year!

This is apparently the 'finest known' example: OSTROGOTHS. Theodahad. 534-536 AD. Æ Follis [40 Nummi] (12.17 gm, 7h). Rome mint. D N THEO-DAHATVS REX, moustached and mantled bust right, wearing ornate Spangenhelm; mantle decorated with pectoral cross / VICTORIA PRINCIPVM, S C across field, Victory standing right on prow of galley, holding palm across left shoulder and wreath in outstretched right hand.

Quote: On another note I've always wanted a Ricimer Couldn't help but dig out an example of him. Minted in the name of Libius Severus but with Ricimer's monogram on the reverse. I wants one too!

Since I've expanded the range a little, I'd thought I'd share a couple more coins: Honorius siliqua, minted in Milan Aelia Eudoxia, minted in Nicomedia

Lol, thanks. It was the most I paid for a single coin (but a decent deal as far as siliquae go), so it became the only coin I bought that month lol.

Someone offered me one for $75 but I had to turn it down, unfortunately.
Yeah, I can believe that for the only coin in a month.

I found quite a few when I looked through! I also have a Eudoxia - same design, uncleaned. Heres the four I found, I'm currently trying to get a mint mark off of the Theodosius but I'm not getting any matches. Also, I never found out what the far right one is. Best I could find it Victory walking, cross in field, trophy and captive.
