Any ideas on what this is?

It weights 4.6grams & is just a hair bigger than an average quarter...

Which year/area?

Any value?

So who's hands could this have been in? Was it a common denomination?

A simple way to identify this piece immediately as being from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) is the Manchurian script on the reverse as the dynasty originated in Manchuria. Cash coins (this is where the word cash originates) like this were produced in tremendous numbers and are extremely common.
