Moving up through the mint set... here's the D nickel. Mint cellophane really does little to prevent scratches...Opinions?

Hi yavaris

It sometimes takes a little time for folks to respond .

not only does mint cello not prevent scratches it actually causes them !!

The coin can and does slide around inside the mint set ,, that is one of the reasons why I do not leave my coins in mint packaging .

This nickel grades at MS-62 in my opinion, but the damage is from bumping against the other set of coins in the envelope,,

IMHO, I only go MS 62 on this one. Still, pretty nice. How many mint sets do you have?

technically, just most of the 1987 P,D,S sets. just no half dollars, go figure, haha.

and its evil that mint cellophane offers so little protection... jeez.

I'm going to be a little optimistic and say MS-63. Keeping the coin in the mint cellophane is like keeping it in a bag of rocks (OK I'm exaggerating a little). Over time it will decrease the grade, thus changing the value of the coin.

hum, so I guess that's the effect of 20 years of sitting in mint cellophane :) At least they're all in 2x2s now.
