I recently won a lot on ebay sold by someone who mostly listed rarer looking books. It included an 1866 IHC with some stuff on it, lower grade 1859 and 1865 ICH along with an 1888 IHC, some wheats that weren't much of anything, an almost dateless Buffalo nickel, and this dime. A strange lot. Is dime suppose to be something or should I just toss it in the coin machine when I roll search?

It looks a little thicker than dimes I encounter.

This is actually in the wrong forum, maybe it needs to be moved to modern?

It looks like environmental damage to me. Maybe a metal detector find? John1

yup toss it
dark coins are usually found with metal detectors and most coins in the ground turn dark in color looks like it was cleaned up before being spent
Ive found many coins with my detector that are dark too

Use in a vending machine, add to returned rolls to bank, give to a kid or place in Salvation Army can.

It is just weird it would be included in a lot with 1865, 1866, and 1859 Indian heads. Maybe the seller thought it was suppose to be something? I did notice the seller mostly sells rare books.

Just a contaminant in the lot. It happens. Spend away.

There was also a bunch of wheats, some I need for my books, others got tossed in a coffee can with my roll finds.
